THE 2025 Friends of Woady Yaloak Horse Trials at Smythesdale Victoria was so popular organisers had to close the entry book almost a month out and start a wait list.
With classes capped, it took just over two weeks for a number of the open, young horse and grassroots sections to reach capacity.
When the weekend arrived on May 24 and 25, the event played out in perfect autumn sunshine, just before Victoria’s weather turned wintery.
While there were just three starters in the 3.5-star class, they were all quality performers.
Murray Lamperd and Havelock Brandy led from the dressage to win from Sophia Hill and Tulara Baltango in second place and Georgia Tivendale and Bellevue Hill third.
Christopher Height riding Giovanni Georgio rose from second after dressage following with two perfect jumping rounds to win the three star.
With one of the best scores of the event, Yona Lloyd and Mischief Managed To Day rose from equal fifth in the dressage to win the two star from a full class of promising horses.

In the one-star, there are so many competitors looking for a start this section was divided into two divisions, with Chloe Daun and PEC Agadoo and Alexandra Durante’s Van Eyk Don Esprit the winners in each.
The lower sections were all divided into special groups with the Young Horse classes honoring the memory of Zoe Warrell, who died in 2022.
An amazing young woman and an important volunteer, Zoe was passionate about young eventing horses and the Champion of Champions Young Horse Award at MI3DE is also named after her.
The EA95 section was divided into open, young horse and grass roots divisions, where Isabella Draper’s Skyfall Quality won the open, Tahlia Pursell’s Yalambi’s Oscar De La Renta the young horse and Jasmine Reed’s Tiny Timmy the grassroots.

The EA 80cm was divided the same way, with Wilhelm Enzinger’s Hugo Xtreme winning the open, Annabel Nelson’s Kenlock Superjazz the young horse and Pearl Hodson’s Chacco Red the grassroots.
In the EA 65cm, Imelda Westworth’s Rateriser was the open winner and Ivy Williams’ Creswell Montana the grassroots, but it was Madison Jackson and Ardington Kylo Imperium who had the best result of the entire event, winning the young horse division with just 20.6 penalty points on the scoreboard at the end.
