NSW breeders show off their latest crop of youngsters

WINTER is the time of year when many hug their fireplaces with a book and warm lap rug but it’s also when breeders of horses and ponies like to brave the cool breezes and join together at shows to compare their youngstock.
There were all sizes, breeds and colours at the NSW All Breeds Foal, Youngstock, Winter Hack, Hunter and Newcomer Show at Hawkesbury, with Buckskins well to the fore in the Welsh rings.
Haluma Park Buddugoliaeth, a Welsh Cob colt shown by Nicola Tselepis, was champion Cob foal, best foal-in-hand and grand champion Welsh exhibit.
Another Buckskin, Paulgren Park’s filly Paulgren Park Valentine, was grand champion part Welsh exhibit and looks set for a successful saddle career in the future.
Woranora Pony Stud has been breeding Welsh ponies since 1984 and the breed’s prefix was notable at the show, under several owners.
Woranora Pretty Penny shown by Helen Dohan is a filly that stood ahead of Woranora Tiara shown by Catherine Egan in her class before winning the champion Welsh Mountain Pony foal award.
Woranora Distinction, shown by Jessica Luscombe, was champion Welsh Mountain gelding and Supreme Welsh youngstock, as well as being runner-up grand champion Welsh exhibit.
In the foal classes, Andrew Buckley’s EBL Sparkle caught judge Joanne Maunder’s eye taking home both the open and Riding Pony supreme championships.
The supreme Australian Pony foal was Maree Wilson’s Brigadoon Park Ace Of Spades, with Maree also showing the supreme Australian Saddle Pony Brigadoon Park Lucky Hugo and part Welsh foal Brigadoon Park Manhattan.
The supreme Shetland Pony was Joanne Vella’s Zodiac Park D'Artagnan.
In the colour and open breed ring judged by John Walker, the supreme champions were Fiona Weal’s Eastview Juniper (coloured foal), Paulgren Park Valentine shown by the stud (Buckskin youngstock), Breanna Murrell’s Kyabra Park She's All That (Pinto youngstock) and Kylie Hodges’ Willowcroft Justice League (Palomino). The White Horse champion was Wyatt Park Echo's On Ice shown by Lisa Wyatt.




The show is in a very strong area for Arabian Riding Ponies and the quality was high.
Dalveen Gregory’s Rathowen Redemption was named supreme Arabian Derivative foal and Kylie Hodges’ Ardee Hill Kissing Karma took the championship for part-bred yearlings.
Kylie also added to Willowcroft Justice League’s sashes, with the yearling colt taking out the Arabian Derivative supreme championship.
Lee Stubbs’ LE Dancing in Time, who was reserve in the part-bred yearling section, won the classes for best head and best trot.
In the Miniature Horses, Ellen Roberts showed the supreme champion, Enchanted Let Me Impress.
Other standout youngstock across the led rings were Joanne Prestwidge’s Merry Keepsake Of Royalwood (Riding Pony supreme), Breanna Murrell’s Kyabra Park She's All That Breanna Murrell (partbred APSB/APSB RP), Susan Lyons’ Lyons Lane Buttons And Bows (Welsh Mountain), Alison Weir’s Amaroo Park Shimmer (Welsh Pony) and Paulgren Park Valentine (part Welsh).
The youngstock exhibit awarded the championship for showing the most potential for a future career was the winner of the galloway/hack over 14hh class, Sirrah Royale Secrets shown by Louise Ryan. Kelly Ralph’s KL Resignation took reserve for showing potential for success as a show hunter over 14hh. The foal with the most potential Maddiee Gray’s Kilpara Park Top Class, showing suitability for both leading rein and harness.



The supreme ASHS/WB/TB foal was Jenny Weule’s Nethaway Classic Black, the supreme ASH exhibit Jayne Bourke’s Nethaway Miss Chanel, supreme Heavy Horse Youngstock Jessica Bazika’s Duke of Hearts and supreme youngstock horse Martyn Minns’ Gramayre Majik Bear.
In the ridden classes, show hunter judge Maria Furina chose Woranora Nimrod, show by Alison Galbraith, as her pony champion, Kim Wilson’s Lilly’s Fair as champion galloway and Megan Riley’s Aloha Zambezi as champion hack and supreme ridden show hunter.
In the open ridden ring, judge Samantha Watson selected Kerry Carr’s big pony Kereena Park Mr Bojangles as her supreme ahead of champion galloway Naomi Brincau’s and Leeara Park Miss Dior and champion hack Cecile Callaghan’s She Excites.
Carissa Holmes’ Kingsfield Kryptonite had a busy and successful day, taking home the blue ribbons in the ridden Australian Stock Horse hack, working Stock Horse and ridden Buckskin over 14 hands classes.
The supreme western exhibit went to Allise Fail’s Iron Horse Smokin Affair and supreme Donkey exhibit of the show was Joan Young’s Joy's Emmerdale.
