SITTING at Werribee Park on a cool autumn day, watching classes at the Geelong Jumping Club’s Autumn Classic, you can’t help but notice how egalitarian show jumping is.

The horses are all sizes and colours, and the riders are both sexes and of every age and everyone just seems to get along.

Russel Hearn, Stuart Abrahams, Tim Clarke and Brook Dobbin all started in the sport way back as juniors and now as adults with their own children riding, still mix it very well with talented youngsters like Stuart’s daughter Eliza Abrahams, Harley McNaughton and Harry Borrack.

Eliza and her one in a million-chestnut partner Rocket Rod took out the 100cm class, and with Emcee Streetwise won the Binnie Barclay Memorial Junior championship.

Amelia Tsilfidis and the palomino pony Pride of Gold is no slouch against the clock and won the 1.05 class.

The grownups struck back in the 1.10m class with Russel Hearn on RBH Montpellier and Stuart Abrahams on Varchie RM taking the first and second ribbons and Amelia’s Pride of Gold in third place. Tim Clark’s Kanntango, Stuart Abrahams Vainquer amd Brook Dobbins’ Jackie S placied in the 1.20m.

Sam Robertson took first and second place in the 1.30 class with Al Nemo and Velvet Kate.
